Bush's failed attempt at a higher level of education. This sucked it up and failed horribly in my opinion. Another reason to hate on the Bush administration!
Why? Because I'm still a highschool student and I get the effects of this crap, AKA it directly affects me.
So what do you guys think about this policy....if you can even call it that....

I think this policy is ridiculous. Every things about it. They force teachers to focus on things that aren't needed to be focused on and take away all creativity and any reason to make people WANT to go to school. In their attempt to make children better, they have taken away a majority of the electives that keep students interested in their education, thus causing more and more students to despise school and not put their intelligence and interest into it. Futhermore, if a school fails to meet their RIDICULOUSLY high standards, they take away everything that makes the school good, such as the good teachers and programs that make the school a good one. They want to move EVERY student one level higher so that no one is on that bottom rung, but fail to realize that there are some people who are incapable of reaching the standard they have put before them.
Summary : No Child Left Behind Act needs to be left in the trash bin

hear hear! I totally agree with all that's been said about this trash plan ... my mother is a teacher so I've seen how it affects them. They've already got enough to worry about keeping up with what school districts and the state wants, but adding on what the federal government wants is ridiculous. If anything, the No Child Left Behind act has hurt education. Unfortunately, parents don't quite get it either and they're not helping keep up with their kids. Anyway, NCLB needs to be tossed. It's one of the stupidist plans ever, and I really do mean ever.

I agree completely.
Our entire criteria that we are taught is based on teaching to academic tests such as the ACT and SAT. Tell me how in my life, that's going to effing help me after I get into college. Oh, that's right, IT'S NOT! I'm sorry but I used to learn USEFUL things in school that would help me.
Also taking out electives is stupid. They yell "more exercise!" then make you take three extra math classes so you no longer have a free period to put PE in, because in my school (and most I believe) You're only credited the class one time. That means if you take it more than that, no credit!
Our school has been forced to add an extra class period to the day, and credit us for the extra PE even. (Yay I get credit for football!)
As Wile said, this takes away from the one posotive small schools had: A more person-to-person learning environment. That really helps a lot of people.
Because as Lisi said, not all of us exceptionally gifted academically, and some people just aren't cut out for it. So instead of helping them, now they're either forcing them through, causing them to fail, or holding people with more potential to a slower pace because a few kids in class can't keep up! That's not right to either of them!
Also, by having to be a larger school and such for income BS...All that's done is make kids transport further to school, cost schools more because the money they "get" from the other school they consolidated is being used to transport the kids back and forth, and pay teachers! (Arkansas has some of the lowest paid teachers in the nation. Teachers here don't do it for the money generally, they do it because they like to teach, which is one benefit I have. My teachers generally give a crap.)
We still don't have the money to build a larger school, so the small one we have is now getting full and close to over crowded, granted they just built a new elementary school, but hell, the one they had was about to fall apart, they didn't have a choice! They were going to do that before considation as soon as they got the money anyways.
So now not only are we not being taught useful things, but we're suffering in our school systems/economies. Also in the classroom by being forced to go to fast or restricted to a slower pace so we can't learn to our full potential in either case. And hell, the kids with over an hour commute? Well goodbye sleep! So yeah, now we're running on sleep deprivaton!
And our homework load is increased since this policy came in. I don't know WHY. I think it's stupid. I'm sorry, but I go to school from 8-3:30 (will be longer next year, like 7:50 til 3:40 or so) to get an education and do school work. Not to go to class and get work to come home and do! And more of it now at that! (And it's not just highschool, I've noticed it just since this policy has really started to affect us.)
Lets not forget that we're supposed to juggle this with being active in extra curricular activities, jobs, and half the time we hear about how they want us to do so much community service to graduate (thank God we're at least smart enough to shoot that down.) So yes, we really have time to be well rested, healthy people so we can pay attention in class and be educated, and be effecient at a job, and get our homework done so we can pass.....It's getting un-frickin-real. It's idiotic.
You know, they talk about how the asian people go to school like 12 hours a day and that's why they're smarter or some BS. Well, 1) They have a higher population, so they'll naturally have more smart kids. 2) Those nations divide their kids. They find out which ones are capable and continue them in school, the other ones get sent out and trained in manual labor and such, and that's what they do. So we're competing all of our students with their best! 3) Going to school is ALL those kids do. They don't have sports, band, jobs, and a ton of homework. When they get out of school they are trained for their field and their socialist government will put them in a job. They don't have to go to college and compete for jobs like we do. So with the extra time, they can be well rested and actually be AWAKE so they can actually LEARN something in class.
So yeah, we can't expect to compete with them like that. It's idiotic.
The whole policy is idiotic. I say NCLB should be left behind!
Or more artfully put, I'll borrow the words of the band Bloodhound Gang: "Burn motherf****r, burn!"
