The Great Gatsby. A modern classic that "captures the elements of the Jazz Age in their truest sense" as I once heard it put. Many people had to, or will have to read it through highschool.
Personally, I think it was a waste of time in my life that could've been devoted to much better things. It was just that bad. Everyone in the story was fake, and the whole story was driven by the fact that they couldn't act like mature adults instead of pre-teens, even though they were fully grown.
So what'd you think?

I agree with your opinion. I really didn't like it a whole lot. I only read it because I had to in my Englihs class. The only thing I really remember are the eyes on the billboard besides just disliking the entire book.

Haha. I told my teacher it sucked. She asked us about half way through what we thought, and well, I told her. I said "You need to take all copies of this and burn them in a big fire. We could make a cookout over it or something. At least then this story would have a good use." ...something like that, not sure that's exact wording though. She got a good laugh out of it at least. And I was expecting to get in trouble.
And the billboard sucked. I didn't think it was anything special, and our teacher was reaching trying to say that it was symbolism to the "all seeing eyes of God." ....personally I find that HORRIBLE symbolism, and it's a far stretch to even say that's what it was at all.

I hate having to find symbolism in any story. Actually, I am really bad at that and figuring out 'what the author really meant'.
I'm sure someone told my English teacher they hated it, but he probably just told them they needed to keep reading it.
