The era that started the transition from the ancient world to the world of thinking and modernism, the era that lead to the renissance.
The nation that crucified one of the most celebrated religious figures in history, Jesus Christ.
The nation that conquered most of Europe then collapsed on itself by spreading its forces too thin.
Then the Byzatines, the remaining eastern part of the empire after it collapsed, with strong rulers such as Justanian(spelling?) and his wife.
An empire that founded several ideals of modern demoracy.
There's a lot to be said about the Roman/Byzatine Empire. Discuss it here.

This is awesome. I just took an Archaeology of Ancient Italy class.
Of the Roman emperors, who do you like/hate?
I like Augustus because he was able to transition the Republic to an Empire without causing more problems. He also fixed a lot of things in the city for the general public.
I don't understand why Constantine gets such a huge credit. The only major thing he did was keep the empire together for a few more years, and pass the Edict of Toleration. He didn't make the empire Christian, though that's what is seems everyone thinks.
Anyways, that's my thinking for the moment.

I'm pretty Constatine wasn't even a Christian himself, except for at the end to save the empire from total collapse. And that's why he's so accredited. He stopped the complete fall, which is what would've certainly happened if he hadn't. So althought it fell, it was postponed for awhile =P (If I'm not mistaken, which I don't believe I am or I wouldn't say it, lol.)
I don't care too awful much from Roman history, aside from what I've had to study it in school, so I doubt you see me taking any Archaeology classes dealing with Rome, heh.
