One of the most controversial and diverse topics in modern day, it dates as far back as time itself.
The mythological gods of the Greeks who ruled from Mount Olympus after the overthrow of their Titan parents by Zeus.
The Romans, who believed in many of the same gods, just renamed (which coincidentally many of our planets are named after if you didn't know that)
The Bible and Christianity, The Torah and Judaism (I believe that's the term for the Jewish religion?)
The Koran and Islam
The many gods of Hinduism
The disciplinary training and questioning ways of Buddhism (Who was the founder of this way of life, although it is considered a religion because later sects came to view Buddha as a god rather than a leader/founder. Again, controversial)
All these things are related in many ways, and different in just as many. Discuss at your leisure here.
Also, symbolism in religions. Know an interesting symbol from religion that's part of the modern world? Share your wisdom here.
To start:
Christianity borrowed the image that is often portrayed for God from the Greeks. The old man with white hair is actually the way Zeus was often portrayed.
Zeus was the first to be called the water-bearer, which is associated with the Zodiac. (Aquarius is also known as the water-bearer.)
Zeus was renamed Jupiter by the Romans. This is also the name of the 5th planet in our solar system.
Ares was renamed Mars, the 4th planet of our solar system.
There are many more, that's just a short list to maybe spark your memory.
