Hmm.... Touchy one.
Personally, I think we had no business being there, and then when we went there we screwed up. We sent our soldiers there, and left them to fend for themselves. We turned our backs on them. Then when we brought them home, they weren't given the welcome anyone coming from war deserves. We did the soldiers wrong. I think that we (the USA) has actually learned a big lesson from this war though.
For some good reading on it, I suggest The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. It's fiction, but if I'm not mistaken the stories in it are based off of real stories he was told by people who were in the war.
