Usually when I'm asked this question, and I have to answer with only one I choose my default answer. What that movie would be?
Empire of the Sun If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend it. Based on the book by JGBallard and directed by Steven Spielberg, this movie captivates both narratively and visually. It's the very first movie I saw with Christian Bale. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Current favorite is a runoff between Underworld Evolution and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Overall, I'm not sure. It's defentially a heist movie though, like The Score, Oceans 11, The Italian Job, something of that nature. (I like all 3 of those mentioned before actually, lol)
Edit: Oh yeah, will you give a short summary of Empire of the Sun? I've heard of it and /think/ I've seen it, but not 100% for sure.

Er, my favorite movie would have to be Serenity. I loved Firefly, and then the movie was very awesome. I love how Joss writes his characters. Firefly is one of the few sci-fi series that I could really get my head around.

Blade Runner. An absolute classic that will never lose it's appeal or it's class.

I'm going with Terry Gilliam's Brazil because it's so odd and unexpected. Most people don't understand Gilliam's films; heck, I don't most the time either, but that movie just ups the ante on weird films. I love it even though I still don't know what's going on all the time.
