Okay so rather you're a GIMPer or a Photoshop brat, you all know that there are tools of the trade that you have to use for the awesomeness of the graphic arts.
So what do you use? Do you have any favorite parts or such? Any recommendations?
Also this is a thread to REQUEST tools. Do you need more brushes? New scripts? Different effects? Ask here and maybe someone can help you out with it!
Personally, I use GIMP. (I'd get photoshop but $$$ Says no. I wish I could talk my teacher into letting me borrow the discs from school and load it on my laptop one day...) I have a few special brushes, but brush use isn't my big thing. I like them sometimes, but I think that colors, gradients, and the right lighting effects can do just as well without them.
However, I severely lack in the Fonts Department. Maybe it's because I'm picky about the type of fonts I like. Dunno.
Any font suggestions to download or any such?

Eh, yeah it can actually. Some people just have special brushes for effects they like. I just use whatever.
I use GIMP because I don't have the money for photoshop =P I learned on photoshop in school and I love it. If I married a digital art program of choice, it would be Photoshop.
But alas, I've discovered that GIMP can do basically everything that Photoshop can. (except keep my layers apart, which ticks me off sometimes. When I add a new layer, it merges the old ones into one. *SHAKES FIST VIOLENTLY* ....If anyone knows how to fix that, please tell me.

Haha... I don't use Photoshop or GIMP. I use the freeware step down from GIMP - Photofiltre aka Photofilter. I can use all the programs at school, but I'm there so much already. Photofiltre is really easy to use. It's super easy actually and doesn't take as long to learn compared to the other programs. It has several brushes, effects and the like. Another upside? It takes up less space on the computer. Who can forget: It's free! What more can you ask for? And for the most part, it gets the job done. The "getting the job done" part makes it worth it as well as the free part. Only a couple down sides... almost everything is manual; tracing is a time consumer. And, usually the quality doesn't come out as well as more professional programs. And a big downside that I've found has given me a huge learning curve to overcome? Once you get used to the program its a lot harder to learn other programs. Hense my preference to it over GIMP. Love GIMP but haven't had the time to explore and experiment with it. There aren't many tutorials for Photofiltre. So, if anyone finds any, please send them this way. Thanks in advance. As for fonts, Ty... have you tried checking GIMP-related sites? www.gimp.org/unix/fonts.htmlwebsiterepairguy.com/ebooks/gimp/Installing_Fonts_in.htmlscottru.web.cern.ch/scottru/main/translation/article116.english.htmlwww.linuxfocus.org/English/November2001/article116.shtmlFor fonts in general you can save them onto your computer and move them into GIMP. Then you can pretty much use any site that has free fonts. Googled: www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+fonts&btnG=Google+SearchNice link with different sites: www.free-fonts.com/links/

Personally, I can't seem to get past the first week of checking out new programs unless they're film/cinema related. *shrugs* It's definitely an option though, but if I were to get Photoshop I'd just get it from a friend.

I don't have friends interested in Graphic Art really =p I'm a nerd where I'm from. I hail from Middle of Nowhere, Arkansas guys. They all think I'm some kind of genious for being able to do what I can with a computer around here, lol! Sad part is, I can't do that much with them compared to a lot of people. If I knew people with photoshop then I'd just yank their CD.
I thought about the Downloading with the serial number, and I might know where I can get one. I'll check into that like next week when I'm at my mom's =)
As for fonts, megapacks like Moog was talking about is what I wanted. I have a hard time finding fonts that I like, so I'm the kind of person to go "Okay lets just get like the biggest bulk of fonts I can and see what's there!" lol.
Appreciate the resource sites as to finding some though. =)

If you have Photoshop CS2 then you don't need a serial number, I have a patch which fools the program into thinking it has been activated. Been using it for ages and never had a problem.....but shhhhhh.......don't tell people about this.

Well crap my message didn't post earlier so here it is again.
I got a guy from SNAFU to give me a Keycode Generator. =) So I appreciate it, but I got it up and running.
I also managed to contract some spyware and the like and so earlier I also got TrendMicro and it kicked all *** indiscriminantly *dance* So I now have a clean and protected laptop. (I thought I had Norton Antivirus stuff but I didn't!)
